It was a Friday afternoon when I was called by the attending
nurse requesting help for a family with their one and only wish: that their
parents be able to spend their last moments together side-by-side.
He was in
the hospital. She was at home on hospice. She was declining rapidly. Then, he
took a turn for the worse. The hospital wanted to send him to a facility for
rehab. She was fading away in their apartment.
The nurse and I began to call
down the list of area nursing facilities, asking for one male rehab bed and one
female inpatient respite bed, and Please, can they be in the same room?
In my
experience, this is difficult to find, especially with such short notice. Both genders in the same room meant they also
needed a private bathroom, narrowing the probability.
I wasn’t very hopeful.
A true miracle, one
facility called back. They could accommodate them, but needed time to move their residents around.
We’ll take it!
Husband and wife, lovers until
death, were reunited. This is their picture. She passed on Monday. He followed shortly thereafter.
This is why I do what I do.

Also well-known in Kenya are these tusks that commemorate Queen Elizabeth's visit to this city.
Camel rides on the beach!
I also got to go snorkling along the reef!
In a nature trail park, they had hippos, giraffe, tortoises and these crocodiles which we were able to watch being fed.
A little off subject-- this is me presenting the money to the local church for their building projects, donated by Harvey SDA church in ND. This is also the pastor that is marrying David and I in 6 days!!!
