Crime Scene at Shin Residence

Tennille Shin, first responder, arrived on the scene at approximately 07:32:00 PM.

Exhibit A:

At 7:32:01, T. Shin radioed for back-up. Detective D. Shin was issued out and arrived at approximately 7:32:09 PM.

Investigation of surrounding area uncovered further evidence of suspicious activity.

It was then discovered that the following items were missing:

Four (4) homegrown heirloom tomatoes
One (1) chiquita banana minus the stem
One (1) red delicious apple

A closer look at the crime scene brought the pieces of the puzzle together.

The suspect must have entered the living room some time between 06:00:00 PM and 07:00:00 PM when homeowners were out on their evening run.  The suspect then positioned themselves on the couch in such a way allowing for a clean shot at the fruit on the countertop, leaving no signs or prints.

However, the suspect made the final mistake of eating their stolen goods on the cream-colored carpet nearby, leaving tomato stains and banana remains.

With this insight, detectives immediately surveyed the surrounding area once more and found the evidence of a break- in out they were suspecting.

However, she was soon dismissed from interrogation when Mr. George Beans (Bush's Baked) was caught red-handed, er, pawed.

Adventures with Lily

Lily is our dynamic dog. While George is even-tempered, loyal, and responsive, Lily seems to be the opposite. When I go on walks with George and Lily, George is my security and Lily my liability. She jumps up on people, runs in front of cars, and picks fights with other dogs (and llamas). All of our training goes down the drain when she hits "frenzy mode."

Don't get me wrong though, she is a fast learner and very obedient at home. She understands and plays games that George is unable to grasp. She is also more obedient to our indoor rules when they are home alone. George has no qualms about breaking out of their designated area. But we always find Lily sweetly sitting where she is supposed to when we get home, even if the gate as been flattened by George.

But, as soon as she is outdoors and thinks something exciting is about to happen--watch out, 'cause here comes Ms. Frenzy! You know she's hit craze-mode when you spot a certain gleam in her eye and she's sporting that outrageous grin. Never mind the fact that before you can blink twice she's put paw marks on your pants and is running circles around (and through) your legs.

Well, we know there will be no shortage of apologies to strangers during her lifetime. And we know we've got some never-ending work to do with her. But despite this, Lily is still a source of love, laughter and adventure.

Shin Family Visit

David's parents visited us for a long weekend and it was so wonderful!

Of course, we had to take them to the same place we take all of our visitors. :)

Ruhbarb, cherry tomatoes, roma tomatoes, zucchini and not pictured are lima beans, beef-steak tomatoes, pees, and yellow tomatoes. (Do you think we like tomatoes?)

My first fruits!

Because we live in a condo, we don't have much room for a garden, though I'm happy for this small area around our house. We tore up some dead bushes to plant this, later learning that we were supposed to run that by our condo association. Oops. Good thing we're friends with our neighbor who is also the association treasurer!

In reality, we have WAY too many tomatoes to know what to do with. But it has given me the opportunity to try new things. I've made bruschetta, spaghetti sauce and fresh tomato soup!

Also thrown into our summer was two weeks of Camp Pitch/Meeting, 4th of July drama from losing Lilly in another Michigan city (we found her two days later), two weeks of VBS, and a Ministerial Retreat.

A nice summer, but I'm glad for things to slow down a little bit... :)

Milestone

Ahhh, the freedom.

Paying student loans off are a thing of the past.

On a completely different note, a few weeks back I walked into our living room to see this:

Unfortuntely I don't have a before picture, but just imagine a beautiful, full, long-leafed plant--leaves reaching to the bottom of the planter....

The culprit:
Apparently we had a sick puppy and at the time the ground was covered in snow and there was no grass to eat to make his tummy feel better. So owner's spider plant had to do.... He tried my aloe vera too, but promptly spit that out--all over the living room.

As I Promised

Well, I did promise that I would tell you about another new addition to our home...

Here it is!

We have new couches!

Well, they are actually used ones that we got from a store called "Hotel to Home" which sells hardly worn and good quality couches and other furniture. These two couches aren't actually from a hotel, but were repossessed from people who didn't make their loan payments.  The red chair and ottoman pictured below are actually from a hotel.

But...

 did you really think that was the new addition??

Meet George.

A beautiful Golden Retriever.

David found him at one of the local animal shelters and instantly fell in love.

I took a little longer to warm up to the idea, but that seems to be the rule of thumb around here. :)  It didn't take me long.

We brought him home today and he is fitting in quite well.
